The story starts with a simple family vacation. The Laverty brothers convinced their dad to take them to Cuba. The multi-layered complexity, combined with warm humor of Cubans, struck a deep chord in Collin. He has since dedicated himself to strengthening the relationship between the U.S. and Cuba. In 2012, Collin established Cuba Educational Travel with his college best friend, Adam Linderman.
In 2014, as President Obama initiated a historic shift in U.S.-Cuba relations, Michael, the other Laverty brother, joined the team to create Havana Strategies, a consulting firm offering advisory services to U.S. companies.
In 2017, fueled by the stories about Havana's magic, Megumi (Michael's wife) joined the business. Megumi and Michael packed their apartment in San Francisco and moved to Havana, to become neighbors with Collin.
